You may have found yourself wondering what all the buzz is around the somewhat-oddly named city of Kamloops. The name itself is derived from and old Shuswap word meaning “meeting of the waters.” Locals will contend that this is descriptive of far more than just our geography, however. Indeed, visitors to our beloved town will notice a definite sense of community, where people gather to create warm memories despite the cold weather. 

At no time of year is this more evident than during the holidays, heralded by the Lights in the Night Christmas Party which runs from the 24^th of November to Christmas Eve! You’ll see Kamloops alive with the holiday spirit, with the streets decked out in dazzling arrays of ornamental lights and storefronts on full seasonal display (a contest is held to determine each year’s winner!) The local economy buzzes with activity as tourists and locals finish their Christmas shopping and gather in the many fine local dining establishments to rub elbows and ring in the end of the year together.

Of course, you don’t need to wait for Santa to plan your trip our way! Music lovers in the BC region are likely already quite familiar with Sandman Centre, which regularly books world-class acts. You won’t just find outstanding musical talent in Kamloops, though. Connoisseurs of fine art and photography will have plenty discover the galleries and museums scattered throughout the downtown area.
